✺ Glows under UV

Longwave UV (~365 nm)Pink, often weaker
Shortwave UV (~254 nm)Bright pink to red-orange (manganese activated)

Manganese makes calcite fluoresce, which is why pink 'mangano calcite' glows pink to red under UV. It is a favourite of UV collectors.

Reactions vary by locality and specimen; many specimens of a fluorescent species do not glow. Shortwave UV can burn skin and damage eyes. Wear UV-blocking glasses, and never look into any UV lamp. Sources: Wikipedia: Calcite. More UV-reactive stones →
