📜 Key facts

AgeAssembled stones (modern)
Origin & sourcesMainly made from thin Australian opal.
CompositionA thin slice of precious opal glued to a dark backing (doublet), sometimes with a clear quartz or glass cap on top (triplet)

How it forms

Thin opal is glued onto black backing to boost its colour. A triplet adds a protective clear dome. A side view shows the glue lines. Don't soak assembled opals, because water can loosen the glue.
