How it forms
In some cavities quartz grows very fast or from many crowded nuclei, forming thin, elongated needles instead of chunky points. This differs from rutilated 'angel hair' quartz, where the golden needles are rutile inside clear quartz. In needle quartz, the needles are the quartz crystals themselves.
