✺ Glows under UV
| Shortwave UV (~254 nm) | Bright sky-blue to bluish white. Molybdenum-rich scheelite glows white to yellow (Franklin material is orange-yellow) |
|---|
Geologists use a shortwave lamp to trace scheelite, and the gold that sometimes comes with it, at night.
Reactions vary by locality and specimen; many specimens of a fluorescent species do not glow. Shortwave UV can burn skin and damage eyes. Wear UV-blocking glasses, and never look into any UV lamp.
